Hi Mary - I love your music, and I thought what you have said about the kind of darkness of "Leader of the Pack" and other Shangri-Las songs of that time. I've also heard it said that American pop music of that time was generally more dark than what preceded it, and that some DJ's, older and somewhat alarmed at what the kids of the early 60s found appealing & meaningful, called the 60s "the Sickies." Do you remember that phrase, and can you give me some other examples of that dark, foreboding feeling in early 60s pop music?
